Nintendo Switch 2 Launches Premiere System Upgrade Loaded with Useful Additions

The Switch 2 has received its first major software patch, version 21.0.0, and although it lacks anything entirely transformative, there are plenty of convenience enhancements to be excited about.

Updated Title Badges Offer Visual Clarity

One of the notable improvements features updated badges that appear over a game card, distinguishing whether that title is an first-gen Switch release, updated model, or digital copy.

This enhancement is well received by users, with many commending it as a "thoughtful addition" that assists give the interface feel more alive.

Enhanced User Discovery and GameChat Functions

When searching for users to send a friend request, the Search for Users You’ve Played With feature under Friend Requests now incorporates individuals you've communicated with in your buddies' voice channels.

Concerning voice communication, various improvements have been implemented:

  • The title won't enter sleep mode on its own when using chat.
  • A setting to disable “Chat Audio Panning” has been introduced.
  • Chat can continue if the console transitions from TV mode to on-the-go or flat mode, even when this change causes the network transitioning from a wired connection to a Wi-Fi one.

Simplified Downloads and Controller Sound Modes

When downloading several games concurrently, you are now able to halt every install with one button press.

For Switch 2 Pro gamepad users, a fresh reduced-delay audio option is included, letting you to choose between “Stable” or “Low Latency” settings.

Faster Audio will reduce audio latency compared to “Stable” but could be more susceptible to interference in various untethered setups.

Virtual Game Card Data Acquisition Upgrade

Another key enhancement enables you to download data for a downloadable software whether or not the “Use Online License” feature is turned off.

This option is accessible in the Settings of a virtual game card when opened via Virtual Game Cards from the console interface.

Additional Device Enhancements

Apart from these major changes, the patch brings several further refinements:

  • Accessibility improvements: Audio narration can vocalize suggested text characters on the Japan layout, and the narration rate upper limit was increased from 300% to 400%.
  • Display features: HDR Output is now called to “System Screen’s HDR Output,” and image fitting is now simpler to adjust.
  • Notifications updates: The option "Platinum Point Notification” was renamed to "Nintendo Switch Online Notification."
  • Device settings: Charging management features “Stop Charging Around 80-90%” replacing the previous “Stop Charging Around 90%” setting.
  • Language support: Thailand's language and Polish have been introduced to the range of offered options, although they can only be available in games that offer the respective language.
  • System-wide reliability enhancements to improve the user's experience.

This software patch marks a solid step forward for the updated system, offering a range of useful additions that refine the general user experience.
