One senior officer who rushed to the aid of a colleague that was assaulted by a knife attacker has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with 27-year-old Jacob Brown subsequent to he pressed a weapon to the throat of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the officers and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist subsequent to a vehicle incident in that location in mid-2023.

Brown attacked with blade the two Sergeant Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.

"Policeman stabbed," PC Wolstencroft could be heard saying over his radio.

Officer-mounted and dashcam video shared by the agency showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, approach to Sgt Foster from behind with a weapon pointed forward.

He collided with the policeman who lost balance and fell to the ground, after which Sgt Ansell jumped in and attempted to subdue him to the floor despite being multiple times hit with the knife.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a open target, bringing the struggle to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell stated audibly: "I need help on my neck now, I got knifed in the throat."

Sgt Ansell sustained multiple deep cuts to his throat and more wounds to his limbs and body, while Sgt Foster received slash wounds.

The department reported Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stop his partner's bleeding prior to emergency responders came.

This most recent recognition comes subsequent to the trio of policemen were granted organizational Bravery Awards in late 2023 and the John Egerton Bravery Award from the regional Police Federation in April 2024.

They further earned a North West Valor Recognition in mid-2024.

"The efforts of the entire team in the end protected one another and resulted in no bystanders suffered any wounds."

Brown was sentenced to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, according to the department.
